These calculators will be used by high school students who are 10th through 12th grades taking Algebra 2 Regents through AP Calculus AB. Many of them are unable to afford to purchase this tool. Having this set of calculators will give my students access to a calculator to take home with them. The calculators that I am requesting are rechargeable so students do not have to worry about the cost of purchasing batteries.
****Knowing how to use tools is a part of the mathematical practice standards.****
The use of graphing calculators starts in Algebra I and continues right throughout high school and into college. We will use them in our daily practice to enhance their ability to make sense of mathematics both in and outside the classroom. It is important to me that my students leave high school comfortable with utilizing this tool (or any tools) to deepen their understanding of mathematics. My students will continue to use graphing calculators throughout college mathematics and other STEM courses/careers.
