The materials (glue sticks, scissors, card stock, paper, and markers) and Cricut machine that I am requesting will help create a classroom that is special to my students. They will be able to create many open ended projects. My students love to retell stories and express themselves through art. Writing, drawing, cutting and pasting are all ways a child can establish and develop fine motor skills. The Cricut machine will make many cutouts, shapes and patterns relevant to our studies, creating a connection through multiple disciplines of our curriculum. They'll be able to sequence, pattern and collage with whatever story characters or theme we are studying. The edging scissors will help their small hands practice their cutting skills. The colorful paper stimulates their creativity and expression. In order to preserve these works of art I'm asking for laminating sheets as well.
Having a personal and print-rich classroom makes the enviornment meaningful to each individual. Labeling and personalization are very important to young preschoolers when you are encouraging and teaching print knowledge. Seeing your name on various items in the classroom can mean so much for a young student. Visuals can create pathways to initiate and facilitate communication, especially for my students who have varying exeptionalities and who are learning the English language. The items I'm asking for will help do this. The materials will also provide a way for the students to produce their own thank you cards for the members of the community who have impacted our classroom in many ways.
