My ELL students work hard to learn the four major components of the language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Listening and following along with the book helps students hear new vocabulary, and discussing the books with students or writing a response allows learners to use their new vocabulary in a comfortable, scaffolded way.
This listening center will be used to help students listen to language-rich books to help them increase their vocabulary and their literacy skills. After listening, students will have the opportunity to flex their linguistic muscles by participating in comprehension discussions with their peers. Students are more engaged in their learning when they are being entertained, and this listening center will provide an exciting new learning modality.
