Neuroscience shows that regular, high stress levels keep students from learning well. Unfortunately, many children in our economically depressed community DO live in high-stress environments. I plan to use the wobble chairs and stability mats to help students relieve any tension, anxiety, and stress, as well as to help students who have learning disorders that may be impacting their learning. They will be able to focus and productively work while their body is moving around on the chair.
Comfortable and inviting seating would encourage my students to want to curl up with a book. Many students in low income areas lack the resources and encouragement to develop a true love of reading. I want my students to experience the joys of reading and to learn to get lost in a good book. I plan to utilize the inflatable and spring chairs to enhance their independent reading time, encouraging them to get comfortable while reading, and to foster the joy of reading. I feel that when students can be comfortable while reading they begin to see t as a stress reducing activity rather than a stress inducing activity.
