Through this project, I would like to build a collection of books that will be shared over the beginning months of school to help establish a strong classroom community. The first weeks of school are a critical time that we spend developing a culture of kindness and respect. During this time, we aren't just tasked with teaching classroom rules and expectations, but also helping our students learn how to self-regulate their own emotions and interact positively with each other. I love to use picture books to help guide these important discussions.
The titles that I have chosen provide powerful lessons on kindness, friendship, growth mindset, and more! They are full of characters and situations that the students can relate to and learn from.
These books will not just be read at the beginning of the year, but they will be referred to throughout the year as we grow together. I know that these stories will have a positive impact on my students not just while they are in my classroom, but in future classrooms as well!
