I have a new group of students in my classroom who did not sign up for the makerspace class. The collaborative projects that I have created are not things that interest them (coding micro-bits, 3D printing or developing structures or bridges, but rather music is their life. Not your typical orchestra, choir or band, but rather Hip-Hop and Rap. After spending time researching the idea of incorporating music into the Makerspace areas, and learning how Makerspaces in general need to shift to be culturally responsive to the types of students in their room, I began looking into how to bring this to my makerspace. My hope is to gather materials to engage these students and open the interest up to new groups of students within my school.
