As a first year teacher, I am struggling with maintaining my most rowdy students behavior. I got this idea after going on twitter to see posts under the hashtag #classroomcribs. I want to make my room more open and less bogged down with the clutter of desks. To move freely in the classroom is to better allow the brain to learn. Currently my desks are arranged in a block, which is not conducive to a cooperative learning environment.
I propose to change the overall environment of my classroom by making my desk arrangement a learning circle, with myself at the center, in full 360 degree view, this way the students can be more immersed, student-teacher interaction is much more fluid, and the students are not all blocked together like sardines in a classroom. I will be much more active this way as I will constantly be moving around the circle to keep each student on task and engaged in the lesson. I tried this arrangement on this last Friday, a day in which I didn't need the whiteboard, the students absolutely loved the arrangement and were excited for it to remain that way.
Whiteboard in tote I would be ready to teach the best mathematics lessons I've ever taught. Thank you for your consideration, have a splendid day/evening!
