Many of my students struggle to sit on traditional chairs. Some students are tempted to lean the chairs back, others slide off their chairs onto the floor, while some students slouch down in their chairs and try to fall asleep. The alternative seating of balance balls will allow active students to move while engaged in learning. It will allow the tired students to engage their core, helping them stay awake and alert. This will help to create a better learning environment for my challenged learners.
My project will make a difference because research has shown balance balls improve focus and attention.
Like I've mentioned before, my students come with many challenges. Some have ADHD, and Autism, but all have some type of learning disability. Having an environment where they are able to come for a few hours a day, and stay focused and on task, will greatly increase their ability to learn those academic skills that will benefit them for a lifetime.
