The 10-Sided Fraction Dice, Fractions-Decimals-Percents Bingo, Quizmo Fractions Decimals, and Decimal Dice games will help bring a new way to address integers, fractions, and percents that are taught in my math classes. Students will use the TI-30X IIS calculators for problem solving activities. They'll be able to see success and build their desire to learn mathematics and see the magic of getting the correct or possible solution.
Students are more motivated and engaged in the learning if they enjoy the activity when they are participating in game or manipulative lessons that build the conceptual concepts taught in 7th and 8th grade. With these manipulatives, it will be easier to create and prepare engaging activities for the students to practice the rules and concepts in mathematics. The manipulatives like the dice allow the students to roll for equations when solving for x, practicing integer rules, rational expressions or basic facts. Using manipulatives and games is more motivational than traditional worksheets or a book. The use of the whiteboards is a way to see different students approaches, students struggles, or misconceptions quicker while ensuring all students are participating in the learning. Materials can be stored in the classroom storage caddies.
Also, the room is full of hot bodies. Because it is important to ensure that the environment is inviting I have asked for the Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser Humidifier and oils.
My hope is to make the instruction enjoyable so students will want to learn math. Research shows that students learn basic facts better through repetition and games. However, it is difficult to put games in the content without manipulatives that make the games possible. With larger class sizes more supplies and calculators are needed. By funding this project you will put the tools in the hands of the students to ensure that they can be successful and increase their motivation to learn the content.
