I work with two classes of 5th graders, some are considered the advanced learners at our school, although many of them would be your average student anywhere else. Many of their parents have had little to no education and speak a variety of languages at home. Most live in apartments with their parents, siblings, and extended family members. Our school consists of about 700 students, 85% of which qualify for free or reduced lunch program. These children have a love for learning that needs to be kept kindled. They look forward to reading anything that they can get their hands on!
