You often hear that books can take you on an adventure. For my students, these books can change their lives. These books will be so cherished and will give my students access to a library better matched to their needs and abilities. These books will be kept in a classroom library to be read, borrowed, and loved by all students in our Deaf and hard-of-hearing middle school program. My student's favorite poster in my classroom says, "It is not a hearing loss, it's a Deaf gain! Deaf Pride!" I tell them all the time that they have a huge advantage when it comes to reading;
Hearing students only get to say the words, while my students can use their language (American Sign Language) to make a moving picture with their hands- but they need these books to make that happen.
