My students are well on their way to becoming readers and writers. They practice these skills everyday. The items for this project will give them more comfortable seating options, great writing tools, and motivational books to help them stay focused as they work toward meeting their literacy goals.
My students are all unique and have individual needs. It's hard for children this age to concentrate if they have to sit at a table for long periods of time. I like for my students to have the flexibility to choose the seating and materials they feel comfortable with so they can do their best work. The Back Jack Chairs and Portable Lap Desks included in this project will give my students flexible seating options so they can sit on the floor in my classroom as they practice reading and writing. They can use the whiteboards, erasers, and markers to work on their writing anywhere in the room. We will use the chart paper and word strips to brainstorm ideas for writing and make word lists they can use to scaffold their learning. The Uplifting Books, Big Box of Sentence Building, and Big Box of Easy to Read Words will provide models for my students as they develop their word and sentence writing skills.
