My students will be embarking on a "First Author" project, in which we will be writing a story book that will be written, illustrated and presented by the students. The books in this order will be used to enrich my students knowledge of books, story elements and story telling, in order for them to understand what a story writing project entails. Our classroom library is in desperate need of books and engaging materials that will open my students minds to the wonderful world of books. Children need good books to learn and good examples to follow. They cannot learn to read if they are not challenged with interesting and engaging books. In the same manner, students cannot understand the makeup of a book and the story within if they are not provided with good examples of rich stories to read.
My students are in need of rich, engaging stories that will help build their vocabulary and reading skills. The books in this order will help my students build on their already developing vocabulary and will enrich their knowledge.
I am a first year teacher, with very little resources and a depleted library, who wants to provide my students the best opportunity possible, to develop their reading skills, their knowledge and their vocabulary in order for them to have a good start in their learning career and a fighting chance to compete and succeed in life.
