I work at O'Farrell Charter School, a Title 1 charter school that serves K-12 students from diverse backgrounds in south east San Diego. Our current population is 60% Hispanic/Latino, 20% African American/Black, 18% Asian, and 2% White/Caucasian. O'Farrell believes in fostering high academic standards, ensuring emotional/social growth, and maintaining a safe and secure learning environment. We bring higher education to the forefront of expectations for our students, anticipating 100% college attendance, despite coming from families with little college background.
I teach kindergarten at O'Farrell. My 26 students and I are learning how to be productive students, curious learners and good citizens. This year half of my children entered kindergarten without necessary letter recognition or phonetic awareness, so I am excited to see how much they grow as we learn to read, write and discover new things together!
