One of the projects that I would like to do with our students this year is a Career Research Project. Prior to the pandemic, our school started an annual Career Day. In preparation for this event, our students did a mini-research project on a career of their choice. The first year that I did this project, I found that our library didn't have enough books about different careers to meet the needs of our students. The online material that we used was too difficult for some grade levels to read independently. So I feel that with the purchase of these books, we will be able to reach the needs of our second and third graders as well as the upper-grade students at our school.
Students are also not as interested as in your traditional job choices (teacher, firefighter, police officer, etc.) so I would like to add books about careers in sports, the military, and engineering into the mix to provide a range of career choices for our students.
I have also added air purifiers into my project list because this will help us provide a safe clean environment for our students to learn in while reducing the number of germs floating in our air-conditioned space.
