I am creating a brand new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) Lab for our school. The lab will allow all classes, transitional kindergarten through 6th grade, to apply the Engineering Design Process as they plan, create, and test solutions to real-world problems. My goal is to create an innovative space where all TK-6th grade students will experience a variety of hand-on, inquiry-based lessons.
Our students have never had the opportunity to work in a space like this before.
Because I am creating this lab from scratch, I need some basic building and science materials so our youngest students can begin solving challenges as soon as the school year starts. The Keva Contraption blocks, marbles, whiteboards, and timers will help them complete our first set of challenges, which include designing and building the longest-running marble roller coaster, an apple wrecking ball that will knock down the most blocks, and the tallest free-standing structure that will hold at least 10 marbles. This short list of materials are the first step in making our STEAM lab a creative place for students to design and explore.
