Having a hard copy of these books will help prepare our students to become 21st century learners. Many of our students prefer to have a hard copy of a text because they find it difficult to read long or complex pieces of literature on a computer screen or they lack internet access outside of school. By having the hard copy, our students are engaging in reading selections that will help build their background knowledge of various topics. These books will also help promote improvement in reading and vocabulary skills, which in turn will help our students on all standardized state tests that require students to read critically.
With multiple copies of each book, our students will be able to read cooperatively and work collaboratively with each other as they discuss and create questions to help prepare for the upcoming Battle of the Books competition. These books, along with student involvement in Battle of the Books, will provide opportunities for higher levels of student engagement. Our goal is to use these resources to create a school environment that promotes reading for pleasure as well as for academic success.
