Students will be involved in a unit called Recycled Racers, which combines learning about the benefits of recycling and engineering.
My students will use recycled materials to engineer their own toy cars, then compete in a Recycled Racer Rally.
In the process, they will learn about the engineering process - ask, imagine, plan, create, and improve. Students will begin by designing and building their own race car with the help of the materials provided by this grant. They will then be able to test and redesign their car, improving their design. We end this unit with a family night in which all families are invited to attend and watch their student compete in the rally.
Students will use the items requested to build and race cars. The students will use techniques to put together what they think would be the fastest car possible. Without the items selected, students would not be able to study engineering or engage in the project, as we do not have the funds to buy these products.
