The supplies I've asked for will be combined with the 24 black utility boxes that I've already purchased. Various types of padlocks (usually 1-4) are secured on a hasp in the padlock hole of a utility box. Students work together in teams to solve curriculum-based problems and puzzles, and the answers they find help them discover the secret to unlocking each padlock. Once students have solved puzzles and unlocked the breakout boxes, there is a unique prize or special opportunity inside the box as a direct reward for their efforts.
Your choice to support our project will provide a unique, exciting, collaborative, engaging, and challenging learning opportunity for students in grades 3 through 5 through the provision of breakout box supplies such as various types of padlocks, scratch-off cards, and invisible ink! Extra touches such as scratch-off cards and invisible ink can help make the breakout box more exciting and mysterious! The fingerprint padlock is unique because it can be keyed to a teacher's fingerprint after a special question is answered! Word combination padlocks can be unlocked when students solve a curriculum-based anagram puzzle and put together the letters in the circles! Keyed padlocks are opened when curriculum-based puzzles are solved and the key is located in a significant place in the classroom. Number padlocks are opened when students solve curriculum-based puzzles or problems that result in a 3 or 4 digit number.
Historically, when I've done breakout box activities or assessments with students, that is the lesson that they remember the most and the most fondly throughout the rest of the school year.
