When kindergarteners start writing, they often complain that their hands hurt. They struggle to hold their pencils correctly making it very hard to read what they have written/drawn. Their fine motor muscles have not been appropriately conditioned. Just like other muscles in our bodies, the more we use them, the stronger they become.
By creating a literacy play dough center with rolling pins, alphabet stampers and mats, students will be able to use play dough and these supplies to build their fine motor muscle skills and practice their letter recognition and word study activities all while PLAYING!
Students will love building their muscles and their literacy skills all while doing what kids do best...PLAY!
