Language barriers and dire financial situations are the two factors that impact my students the most. Many do not have access to the English language when not at school. They do not have access to books at home and our school library is limited. The books in our class will allow students to interact with the language, at their ability levels, at home and in class. It will push them to read beyond picture books and delve into the love of chapter books, and secretly gain stamina and vocabulary.
Through books, my students can grow their language, their understanding, their minds, and their imaginations. They can visit unknown places, unlock unknown potential, and for many learn to love and appreciate learning, which will ensure college for all.
