As a music teacher, I believe that students should regularly engage with active listening activities, and we need a speaker system so that the students can hear the examples I want to share. These activities include listening to professional choirs and singers to learn what to aspire to, listening to their peers to identify common mistakes and listening to themselves so that they can self-evaluate.
I want my students to engage with classical music from beyond the four walls of the choir room. I believe that in they would benefit by experiencing new music with a teacher to explain what they are hearing and with peers so that they can discuss what they hear and how it impacts them.
