Rubbing plates would be an exciting addition to our classroom! In kindergarten, several of our science objectives lend themselves well to activities involving rubbing plates. One of the objectives focuses on physical properties. Last year, while learning about the physical properties of texture and color, we made rubbings of various textures found on items such as bowls, baskets, plates, fabrics, and leaves. The activity became one of their favorite science investigations!
Although my students were quite engaged in and learning well from the activity, there was much room for improvement! The textures from the items I found last year did not come out very clearly. I had a limited amount of each texture available. There were only a few opportunities to use the types of textured items I had available.
The most impactful ways for improving the investigation are through improving quantity, quality, and variety. Your donation would help to improve one of our favorite observation activities and enable us to participate in it throughout the year during our units on physical properties, plants, and animals.
