"Brain research confirms that physical activity (moving, stretching, and walking) can actually enhance the learning process." I would like to include chairs and tables that offer flexibility to optimize learning and promote collaboration. If students are comfortable, I hope that they will be more likely to enjoy their learning experience. In a traditional classroom, students are asked to sit in chairs for hours at a time. This is quite the opposite in the classroom I plan to provide my students with this year.
In a classroom with flexible seating, students are given the freedom to move around and choose the best option of seating that benefits them the most while learning. The rubber based stools will allow students to move freely as they work as opposed to a traditional chair. Cushions will benefit students that enjoy sitting on the floor as they learn, and the tall table is for children that prefer standing while completing work. All of these options will be for multiple children to use at once, therefore fostering the idea of working together. This is a lifelong skill that will not only help the students this year, but in the future. The possibilities in a classroom with alternative seating are endless!
