I teach first grade in a Title 1 school. My students need to feel accepted and valued. First, their basic needs of meals and security need to be met. Then relationship can be built. I love my kiddos and the challenge of getting to know each of them with their unique personalities, needs, goals and dreams. I have studied research showing that flexible seating stimulates brain activity. Therefore I have created a flexible seating classroom. I also use the Daily 5 framework which allows my student ample opportunity to practice reading, writing and comprehension skills while giving them the power of choice. I want my students to feel free to 'think outside of the box', to explore, investigate, make mistakes, and feel successful.
