I teach an amazing group of immigrant students. Most of them came from Central America and a few of them are native of Yemen and Ethiopia. Although many of these students have experienced violence and other traumatic events in some of their countries, they possess an incredible resilience. They are eager to learn English. They work hard in class, they are respectful, caring, responsible, and funny. Their favorite sport is soccer, and they use any recess time to practice their skills. The languages spoken in my classroom are Spanish, Mam, Arabic, and Amharic. I teach two core classes of English and History. The first core is composed of all the Newcomers from 0 to 6 months in the USA. The second core is made up of the students with 6 months to 2 years of experience with the English language. My goal is to help these students build their English skills, so they can be mainstream after their 3rd year in the USA.
