Thiriot Elementary is a Title One school developed in the inner city of Las Vegas. Las Vegas as well as many other populated large cities is a melting pot of cultures and our school is no exception. Our school has students from Ethiopia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Asia and families born and raised in Las Vegas. Our students come from extremely low, socioeconomic background and do not have the luxury of traveling and building a background knowledge through different life experiences.
We are learning and growing from each other. My students support and understand one another while agreeing and respectfully disagree with each other. Many are new to this country, experiencing a classroom for the first time. The two biggest challenges my students face are lack of technology and experience.
