Talking about feelings, emotions, trauma, stress or anxiety is never easy, especially for middle schoolers! I am looking to find innovative ways to decrease my student's anxiety when they are dysregulated. I have found sensory objects to be one of the most helpful tools to get students to talk with ease, self-regulate and learn new coping strategies they can use anywhere! I am always amazed how students start talking when you give them a container of orbeez, create a stress ball or play with therapeutic puddy. I always try to make sessions interactive, fun and relaxing. These tools will help them to return to their baseline so they can process their thoughts and/or emotions. It will also help them to develop more effective coping strategies.
