We live in a coastal community which relies a lot on tourism. Many times the students move from school to school throughout the county as their parents change jobs based on the economy of the area. Each day the students bring with them different challenges and needs that go along with that. First graders are typically curious and excited about learning. With that comes the need to remain safe while receiving instruction. Whether it is a whole group or small group, carpet time plays a significant role in our everyday classroom routine. In order to keep students safe and engaged, it would be optimal to be able to give them their own personal space. Many students with special needs often need set boundaries and a specific place to call their own, which this rug would provide.
