Support Ms. Byrd's classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
Research shows that one of the most effective ways students learn is through choice, independent reading, so students will begin each class with 2-30 minutes of this activity. They will choose books from our classroom library, and will keep an active reading log for use during conferences with me.
A key component of this project involves offering a variety of high interest, quality books for a population with diverse needs. While we have a good library, classroom sets offer an easier to deliver system. Through this consistent activity, students will learn to become engaged, active readers who move beyond basic comprehension.
Using the student-led model will create empowered readers and increase reading stamina with consistency throughout the year.
