Every student learns differently. As a teacher, this is something that we observe immediately in a classroom. At the same time, we expect students to sit feet flat at a desk in a chair and work. That doesn't work anymore! Students need the flexibility to sit in whatever position that allows them to learn the best. For some, that may be a chair. For others, that may be a ball they can gently bounce on or on the floor with a clipboard.
I have requested a carpet for our classroom. This will be used many times throughout the day. Many of my students love to work on the carpet with a lap desk or clipboard, and sitting on the hard tiles isn't very comfortable. I've also requested stools and balance balls for flexible seating options. Students with attention problems find it hard to sit. They need to move in order to stay focused. These balls will allow them to gently bounce while learning at the same time! The supplies I've requested will allow the opportunity of flexible seating to come true for us, ensuring all of my students will learn in their very own way!
