I work with children who have special needs in a rural Title 1 setting. My students face obstacles that are out of their control: having a disability, living in poverty, and for some also dealing with a language barrier.
These children are facing adversity every day at home and in school. But that does not stop our kids from having the same desires as other children: to be accepted for who they are as well as to learn and grow.
