The classroom rug is the most used area in our school day. We start our day with morning circle and daily routines on our meeting area which is the classroom rug. Throughout the day we meet for whole group instruction in reading, writing, and other subjects. Students will also use the rug for their reading spots and during choice centers time where they will also use the rug for cooperative play activities.
A sturdy and multi-purpose classroom rug with 30 colorful squares will give my classroom an inviting and structured environment. If funded, the rug will serve like a "family room" where my students and I will engage in much learning and community building. The individual squares on the rug will help my students learn personal space on the rug because each student will get a square to sit on. Having personal space will help my students stay focused and give them a sense of structure and responsibility.
