As a newer teacher, I am requesting materials to set up a new library area for my 6th students. I am a firm believer that reading can help students grow in all aspect of life. Our student population has a very diverse home life and reading allows students to escape from that life for a brief moment. Our current generation has become so infatuated with technology that they've lost touch with printed word. Many have not experienced the joy of getting lost in the pages of a book.
My hope is that my students will find comfort and joy in a class library so that they can make connections with books and ignite their passion for reading. Books that interest them and an attractive and comfortable space are the beginning of what students need to truly find a love for reading. Introducing these new books and allowing them to take pride in furniture in their reading space truly offers growth in so many areas. With a new found desire to read, I hope that my students will broaden their vocabulary, develop more critical thinking, and spark interests in unknown areas of life.
