When a student feels they need a break from academics or a social situation, they would be allowed to go to the cool down corner (with adult supervision) and pick from a menu of programs on an iPad to deescalate. These include art, music, yoga, and mediation applications. This could be a pivotal point in a student's day as they make a positive choice to use technology, rather than verbal or physical aggression. My goal is that they would be able to transfer these coping strategies learned through the technology to situations outside the classroom, at home, and in their neighborhoods.
