Books are the gateway to success, and without them it is hard to achieve. So as a result, I am requesting assistance with getting new books for my classroom. I hold books close to the heart because of the creativity they ignite. These books would provide topics that are culturally familiar to my students and are in a language they understand. Some of the books I have chosen are about Cesar Chavez, Frida Kahlo, as well as Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. The importance of providing familiarity of their backgrounds will reinforce the history of the culture they are living in, in hopes of helping them grow as readers.
Learning to read is a requirement; however, loving to read is a choice, a choice I would like to extend to all of my students.
Providing students with materials that are both relevant and engaging will help grow these readers into thinkers. Reading promotes education which promotes thinking. My goals are to have books that will increase their reading skills, raising their comprehension level, and inspiring the love of reading. I have a variety of learners that I would like to see mature into future leaders. My students range at different levels; higher reading skills down to those who are learning to decode and blend. The books I have chosen will provide reading practice and access to all the students in my class.
I want my current and future students to enjoy these books. The contact paper I am requesting will assist in keeping these books from being tattered and ruined. From my experience, students are not attracted to old ruined books.
I sincerely appreciate the program and the efforts of the donors, providing so many with the tools for achieving success.
