Flexible seating options will allow students to find a comfortable spot to complete their independent work. Our current schedule contains large blocks of time dedicated to direct instruction and work. Sitting in a traditional desk for 2-3 hours at a time makes it difficult for students to focus on instruction and independent work. I'd like to provide flexible seating options to allow students to move around the room to find a spot that allows them to work to their potential. Stand up desks, bean bag chairs, balance ball chairs and active learning stools provide unique places to learn. Flexible seating also burns more calories, using up excess energy to increase student engagement. The core muscles activated in these flexible seating options improves overall posture, metabolism and oxygen flow to the brain. It's no surprise then that flexible seating is linked to higher academic performance, better health and improved behavior. I'd like to get my students out of their traditional desks. I'd like to turn my traditional classroom into more of a modern learning space.
