My students are an eager to learn group of kids. I was able to meet them at a "meet the teacher" event just before this school year was supposed to start and then Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast where our school is located. Due to the recent tragic events of Hurricane Harvey, we had a three week delay to the start of our school year, but it hasn't discouraged my students. They have persevered and are working hard to get caught up.
Our school is located in Southeast Texas and all of our students are on the free breakfast and lunch program.
These families are already considered to be low socioeconomic level and now many have lost everything they own due to Hurricane Harvey and the flooding that was a direct result of the storm.
