Our school is embarking on a literacy campaign to encourage our students to read One Million Words throughout the school year. Each student will be allocated a reading word goal based on his or her current reading level. Currently, we have only 16% of our students reading at or above grade level.
Our Literacy Campaign will encourage students to read independently on a daily basis which will increase their overall reading levels as well as their ability to access all other subject areas. Students who meet their goals will be rewarded with things such as invitations to special lunches prepared by their teachers, school dances, and field trips.
This project will fund the mid year prize. The first 25 students to meet or exceed their mid-year word count goal will receive Fire HD tablets that they can use to access books online, complete homework assignments and browse the internet. Our students have identified lack of access to technology as a major impairment to independent learning. This project will help students bridge school to home.
