While we have technology in our classroom, I believe it's still important to actually hold a book in your hands and practice reading. I have plenty of higher level books to share read-alouds, but our classroom is desperate for books at a first grade reading level. Having this library will allow me to differentiate reading for my students and see that their daily reading practice is productive and meeting individual student needs. Each student will have a book bin with books to read for the week. I will monitor their progress and provide small group instruction to see that they are progressing.
The books will be used daily in the classroom, and shared at home for those students who lack access to books or internet.
