My students will get to see fish, frogs and snails go through the life cycle process in an environment using plants for the cleaning of the water - rather than chemical treatments. Each child will get to measure growth, see changes in plant structures, feed fish, watch fish behavior and be involved in the learning. They will get to grow plants inside for a purpose. This will dovetail beautifully with the 2 FOSS science units one on trees and the other on living organisms (fish, snails, birds).
These students do not have access to gardens or extra learning beyond the classroom. This will enable them to begin to be lifelong scientists - engaging in their world. It is so exciting for these youngsters to see real science. Their eyes light up with understanding when they see the roots of a plant sprout from the seed. It is very gratifying.
