Too many times in a day my students are told to sit down, sit still, and focus. When they walk into my room they know it is our room. They are able to take charge of their education and their learning. With so many students struggling with the traditional classroom expectations, I would like to shift my classroom to match our society. Students need to be able to move around and explore. They need to be able to work collaboratively while answering their own questions. This is not able to be done the classroom I have right now. I would like to shift my classroom into a flexible classroom. This would provide my students with the movement and control in their own learning that they strive for.
I would like to purchase different seating options to support the students in my classroom. Yoga balls and wobble seats will allow my students to focus better in class while releasing energy. Floor seating will give my students different options while working to provide comfort so they can produce their best work. Headphones will give the students options to block out the distractions around them and will help while researching. Giving students multiple options helps support the fact that not all students are the same and they have different needs that are not being met in the traditional classroom.
