Being able to communicate mathematical ideas proficiently requires working together and working in groups. With most state testing and college entrance testing being online, teachers need to be able to ensure their students have opportunities to report their mathematical findings accurately while using technology.
Being able to communicate mathematical ideas and findings through technology will be key to student success in STEM situations now and in the future.
The tablets would allow students who work in groups to use DEMOS calculating and graphing (which is the most used format for online testing and reporting), online activities that are interactive, and in-class activities that involve technology to report. Being able to do this with a group device rather than a cell phone or having to complete work individually is what will push students into discussions and conversations that will enhance vocabulary and understanding of content as they complete work and solve problems together.
