These students come from a neighborhood in which purchasing school supplies is a luxury; not an option. The items on our list will provide them with necessary supplies, some reward options for good behavior, and some books to broaden their horizons!
Our school is currently working on a program which will rewards students for positive behavior, rather than focusing on punishing the negative. The students earn Eagle Bucks which they can use to purchase rewards and supplies. My students have enjoyed earning rewards such as mechanical pencils, decorative erasers, headphones, and using fun pillows during their silent reading time. This has worked so well with my classroom students that I now have students from other classrooms are now coming to my room asking to purchase rewards with their Eagle Bucks. The requested supplies will allow me to offer more rewards to my students as well as some of the day-to-day supplies we are in need of.
