Since my students are in 3rd grade, it is my job to provide them with the knowledge they need to do well on the third-grade reading test. This listening center will help us in many ways. The students will be excited to use technology in the classroom, so they will want to use this center.
By listening and following along they will better understand inflection, fluency, vocabulary, spelling and I believe it will also improve comprehension. I love reading with my students and working with them in a small group. However, with 30+ students, it would be beneficial if there was a way for more than a few students at a time to listen to reading.
The activities on context clues are important to help the students work on predicting and making inferences. This is a skill they will need on the reading test. They will need to use context clues to understand passages and I think having them practice on a listening center will be a fun way for them to improve this skill.
