175+ 4th an 5th grade students participate in band at my school. Rock Band class is also offered from 5th through 8th grade. We currently have only 1 smaller sized bass guitar that is the right size for 4th and 5th grades, limiting the number of students who play this instrument. Instruments that are too big are frustrating to the musician, and are impossible to play well - and my students want to play well! Having designated bass guitars, guitar bags and an amp for 4th and 5th graders will open more doors for students to participate in ensembles as an integral part of their growth and education.
