Children need to read independently for at least twenty minutes each day, research emphasizes the importance of a classroom library. A library is not just a collection of books in the corner of a classroom but should include certain characteristics to influence children to improve their reading performance. The two most important things that a library needs is a collection of books and a comfortable setting. My classroom has a collection of books that my students love indulging in, but it lacks a comfortable setting. My students have a love of reading, I literally cannot get them to put a book down. I want to provide my students with a comfortable area where they can take their imaginations to another place in a setting that is attractive and inviting. The materials will make a difference in their learning by providing them with an atmosphere that is friendly, a place in the classroom where they can go to relax. The library will allow for student to engage in independent reading time where the students will "get lost in a book." A more attractive library will build their literacy while deepening their love for learning and allow for many interactions with various books.
The green forest rug will act as the red carpet to our library, being the center-fold of all the literacy attractions. All of the reading and interactions would take place on the rug. The colorful pillow, bean bag chairs and rest mats will be furnishings to our lovely library where the students can get comfortable while reading a book. With all of these furnishings, the library will be colorful, bright and inviting, making the students want to go there and enjoy a book. By donating to our project, you will promote students' involvement with reading and interaction with books.
