We plan to integrate Chromebooks with touchscreen technology into our classroom learning environment. The Chromebooks can be utilized across all content areas and can be accessed by students of varied physical and academic abilities. Chromebooks will support the needs of our students by allowing for individual instruction, encourages and enables students to express their thoughts and achieve their potential. There are many options that enables students’ success, like voice to text options for students with academic and physical impairments, increased fonts for visual impairments increasing their ability to read. For students with reading disabilities there textbooks and other materials accessible to be read aloud to students. One of the largest ways that this technology will impact our instructional practice is by promoting collaborative thinking and problem solving. The students can work on projects in pairs or groups encouraging communication that can be either face to face or electronically. This provides opportunities for students to work together to assimilate ideas that are different from their own as well as expressing and explaining their ideas . Students learn better with peers and by collaborating. They learn to advocate for their needs as well as how to cooperative with others. Students learn about their abilities, both strengths and weaknesses when they are given the time to problem solve with peers. These activities simulate real world experiences. Colleges and business look candidates that are able to communicate with multiple methods. Collaboration and problem solving skills are life skills needed to be successful. As our society advances and use of technology increases, our student population is often left behind. Chromebooks within our classroom will foster not only academic improvement for our students but also facilitate access to real world applications and skills they will need to be successful members of our community.
