By being a participant in Computer Science for All, our students are learning how to code as early as ages 5 and 6. Creating pseudocodes on paper is a good way to start mapping out how they would want the algorithm to go, but for some students who exhibit different learning styles, it makes sense to allow multiple ways for them to perform the task at hand. Students would also benefit from the use of tactile materials. Using logical skills, kids can work in groups to problem solve and develop a program that their robot will be able to follow. So not only are they engaging in rigorous discourse amongst their peers, but they will be strengthening the ways in which they tackle problem-solving. This, in turn, will trickle down into other content areas such as math and science.
