These tablets will help my special education students access several Nevada ELA standards to strengthen their foundational reading skills. The first academic standard that my students will access is: RF.K.2 Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). This is because students will access various apps on this tablet during small group activities including starfall and letter school. These will help my students become fluent in identifying and producing letter names and letter sounds. In addition to this, I will be able to assign students individual practice assignments on the tablet during their independent practice time in class. This includes having them work on several Nevada Standard aligned learning activities such as i-Ready and SmartyAnts. My students will benefit greatly from this because it will help them have direct practice in reading CVC words which is a part of the Nevada Standard: RF.K.2c Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable spoken words.
